Where spontaneity meets creativity…

Our original storytelling event was created to spur people into creativity. Overthinking and self-doubt so often get in the way of the creative process—so how do we fix it? We decided that a time limit and some friendly competition would produce just enough pressure to get people out of their heads and get words on the page.

How does it work?

Story Wars is made up of three rounds

  • At the start of each round, a prompt is drawn blind from our big-jar-of-prompts and then read aloud. Anyone who would like to create their story has 5 minutes to write, choreograph a dance, compose a song—however you want to express yourself.

  • After the 5 minutes is up, creators go around and read/perform their story for the audience.

  • After the stories are finished, everyone (audience included) casts their votes!

There are 2 ways to win at Story Wars

  • Overall Winner: at the end of each round, votes are casts for your top 3 favorite stories from that round. Those votes are counted and whoever accumulates the most overall votes wins the night and gets a prize!

  • Superlative Winner: along with top 3 favorite stories, you’ll cast a superlative vote for each round. Every round has it’s own superlative. For example, if the first round superlative is “Commin’ In Hot,” the story with the best opening will win the superlative prize for that round!

Story Wars is a FREE event hosted monthly at Jukebox, and we invite everyone to join! You don’t need to be a writer to enjoy the night—come hang out, listen to the stories and cast your votes.

Everyone is welcome.
